This part of the island houses one of the most important communities of endemic plants of Europe such the Verode (Aeonium lancerottense), Tojia (Asteriscus intermedius) or the Viborina de Lanzarote (Echium lancerottense) amongst others and is also home of some birds such the Guirre (Egyptian Voulter) or Barbary falcon.
One of the highlights of the hike is the charming village of Haría, located at the bottom of the One Thousand Palm Tree Valley. The history of this village has a past marked by misery, successive external invasions and the emigrations at the beggining of the XX century, despite of that Haria is one of the mostt beautiful villages of the island, one of the best places to enjoy the traditional architecture of Lanzarote. On Saturday it takes place the only handicraft market of the island so it is a good opportunity to adquire some nice sourvenirs or to buy tasty homemade goat cheese, the traditional “mojos” or very nice jams made from figs or prickly pear. YUMMY!!
